The Summer Basketball Camp Flyer's are in the Middle School Office.

High School P.E- All lockers will need to be emptied out in the locker room by the end of the year. The custodian staff always sanitize the locker rooms for health reasons. I will be cleaning out the lockers no exceptions. All students will be taking and an exam in P.E class. Dress and participation are still necessary as we finish up the year!

Advance and General Shop- The focus for the last week and a half will be to finish up all projects!!!!!
I also need to get everyone to pay for their project and get it home!!! There will be exams for everyone.

Monday, May 26, 2014

There will be a boys basketball camp this summer for grades 3rd - 8th. Look for info coming this week. I apologize, but I have been busy the last 6 weeks.

General Shop - Finish up all night stand projects, get them paid for and home. That is my focus from now until the end of the year. A reminder that all night stands are $75.00 and please  make checks payable to " McBain High School.  Students who are done with their night stands need to 1. help someone, 2. do homework, 3. or build a project to finish the year with or something  to work on in the fall.  Students need to do something from the list of three up above or their grade will go down.

Advance Shop- There are a lot of Advance Shop students who need to settle up on their projects. My number one goal is to get all projects finished, paid for and home!!!!!!  Seniors need to come back and get their projects they left behind. Like the General Shop students - students need to help someone, do homework, or start a project for next year.

High School PE. -Lockers need to be cleaned out before the end of the year. ALL LOCKERS NEED TO BE CLEANED OUT REGARDLESS IF STUDENTS PLAN TO LIFT OR  WORK OUT THIS SUMMER. THE CUSTODIANS WILL BE CLEANING AND SANITIZING THE LOCKER ROOMS THIS SUMMER.  Students need to remember to finish the year strong. Get dressed, be on time and participate!!!!!!!

Last week for Seniors! It's been a great year and a lot fun!

Advance Shop/ General Shop-  The main (3) focus points for the remainder of the year will be getting every ones project completed!!! (1) That means constructed, sanded, stained and sprayed three times.
(2) All projects need to be paid for before they go home. (3) Get every ones project home, arrangements made.

Students who are finished with there project need to use the hour productively. Do (1) homework, (2) help someone with there project or Mr. Koopman, (3) Make a project they can finish next year.

Students will not be allowed to go to the lounge, weight room etc. The expectations are all students will stay in the room.

High School P.E - It will be a busted up week!! Wednesday and Thursday the gym will be unavailable because of Senior marching practice for graduation. Students just need to be in class on time, dress and participate.

Students need to finish and pay for projects!

Seniors congrats you only have 10 days left!

Advance Shop: Getting projects done is top priority for Seniors!! This means getting them paid for and home. The focus this next (2) weeks will be finishing up senior projects. Everyday from now until the end of the year students will need to work everyday with a focus on getting one thing everyday,

General Shop: Again getting projects done is top priority! Most General Shop students have completed their night stand and a few students a have made some smaller projects as well. In fact I believe there have been some excellent night stands make this year with students using different types of wood to create a contrast. However, there are still some students who need to finish up their night stand and that will be my focus. Cost for all night stands is $75.00 and checks should be made out to McBain High School.

Reminders!

Those students who are done need to bring homework to do in class, use the time wisely! They also could help other students finish their projects.

Sitting around being disruptive or leaving class will have an effect on their grade!

High School P.E-  Students exercising and participating in class is the main goal and focus! Some students who are doing poorly grade wise in class can directly relate it to ( being tardy, not dressing, and/or participating). An "A" is absolutely obtainable for everyone if they do the above requirements.

Friday, April 25, 2014

Advance Shop- " Well the school year is down to "15" days for seniors and "34" for the rest of the kids."Again my main goal is to get everyone's project done, but it has to be functional and look good besides being done! Once your son/daughter has their project done they need to make arrangements to get it home and PAID FOR! So it is work everyday until the end of the school year.

General Shop- Again just finish up projects! That will be the focus for the remainder of the year. Most students are done with their night stands and they look good. I would like to get them all done before the end of the year. Just a reminder that the night stands cost $75.00. Please make checks payable to "McBain High School."

* Students in Shop class need to pay for their projects prior to taking them home unless other arrangements have been made with Mr. Koopman. I keep track of all money students bring in to class and they will receive a receipt from me.

* I also would like a picture of every one's project prior to it going home.

High School P.E- Be active and participate! Get dressed and be on time! That is all students need to do in order to get an "A".

Saturday, April 19, 2014

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!

Parents: If your son/daughter is not doing well in shop class it is probably because they are not doing any work in class! SOME STUDENTS HAVE FINISHED THEIR CURRENT PROJECT AND NOW THINK THEY CAN SIT AROUND FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR! NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Students can do "one" of the following"3" things to finish the year.

1. Help other students finish their project.

2. I have small "projects" things I need to "finish" or 'fix" for other teachers or community members that students can help me with and maintain a good grade.

3. If they are not graduating they can start a project for "next year" which a few students have done already. That is if they plan to take woodshop next year.

EVERYDAY IS WORTH 20 POINTS AND THEY ONLY GET THE POINTS IF THEY "ARE ON TIME", "WORK" AND "CLEAN-UP".

Advance Shop- On Monday I will be handing out cost figuring sheets so everyone can figure out what they owe for their project(s).  It is time for Advance Shop students especially seniors to figure out what they owe and to pay their bill. Students for the rest of the week will be working on their projects. Or doing one of the above (3) so they get their points.

General Shop-The focus will be on getting all night stands done before the rest of the year. Most students have done an excellent job! General Shop also need to pay their shop bill as well. All nightstands cost $75.00.

"All projects if possible should be paid for with a check made out to McBain High School."
Students can pay with cash. I also will give each student a receipt for any money I receive.

High School P.E- Students who are doing poorly in class "are not dressing, are tardy or don't participate!  The plan for the week is try and incorporate the weight room into the 1st hour P.E class on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Resuming the Physical Training of push-ups, sit-ups and running.

Saturday, April 12, 2014

Hope everyone has a Great Easter! Good Friday is this Friday the 18th of April. No school on Friday!
Monday is a 2 hour delay with Rambler Time!

Seniors are on the senior trip this week! Have fun! Only 20 days left of school for the seniors when they return.

Advance Shop- REAL SIMPLE! Seniors need to finish projects and pay for them before they leave. The school year is rapidly coming to an end. All students need to be thinking about finishing their project and getting it paid for before the end of the year. A reminder that all students will get receipt from me showing how much they have paid.  If possible have students pay with a check made out to "McBAIN HIGH SCHOOL".  STUDENTS WHO ARE FINISHED OR ARE GOING TO FINISH WITH THEIR PROJECT PRIOR TO THE END OF THE YEAR STILL NEED TO WORK ON SOMETHING. IT COULD BE HOMEWORK, HELPING SOMEONE ELSE OR MAKING ANOTHER PROJECT.  Not just sitting around doing nothing!

General Shop- Like I've said before there are some nice projects being made ( night stands)!  Just like the Advance Shop students the General Shop students need to get their project done, paid for and taken home.  Just a reminder that all night stands cost $75.00 dollars! If possible please pay with a check made out to" McBain High School". Students who are done with their night stands need to stay busy making another small project, making something they could work on next year if they plan to take shop, or help me or someone else.

High School P.E-  Get dressed, participate, be on time and be respectful! That is all I ask for inorder for your son/daughter to get an "A". Students who are failing or doing poorly can not handle the simple "3" task above! Some exercise and some fun activities is the class.

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a relaxing Spring Break and a safe break one too!

I took the family to Florida and had a good time. I went fishing and had some success. My son Jarrett and I caught some Spanish Mackerel and Pompano two very good eating fish according to the Florida fishing wise. Jarrett caught a very nice Red fish too. While in Florida I seen some Dolphins and Sea Turtles. On Wednesday the family and I went to watch the Blue Angels train and it was terrific. If you are ever in the Pensacola area visit the National Naval Aviation Museum. and watch the Blue Angels train. It is free and absolutely impressive. The Blue Angels are virtually right in front and over your head when the train. The museum is there as well, all at the Pensacola Naval Base! A must see!!!1

Wow 9 and a 1/2 weeks left of school! Seniors only have 5 weeks or 25 days of school. This is not counting the Senior Trip.

Advance Shop- Like I mentioned above seniors only have 25 days of school. They need to get projects done and paid for prior to them (students) being done and the project going home. This week I will go about setting goals with each student in advance shop and how we/ they need to meet that goal through out the week. Parents help me by encouraging your son/daughter to get focused  on their project so it gets done and paid for before the end of the school year. Make sure all checks are made out to "McBain High School".

General Shop- Down to the home stretch! A reminder that all nighstands cost $75.00 and it needs to be paid in full prior to the project going home. General shop students please make sure all checks are made out to "McBain High School". There have been some very nice projects made this year using different woods and I think parents will be pleasantly surprised. Students once done with their nighstand will have to finish the year with a smaller project or a start a bigger one and work on it coming next year.

High School P.E-  Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are back to Physical Fitness days!  Tuesdays and Thursdays are going to continue to be activity days. Some students are not passing simply because they are not dressing and/or participating! Again each day is worth 20 points!

Saturday, March 22, 2014

Spring Break in "5" Days! I can hardly wait. Florida, sunshine and fishing I hope.

I just wanted to say "Thanks to everyone who attended the basketball awards night on Tuesday March 18th. I thought it went real well! I look forward to next year already.

General Shop- I'm really pleased with the nightstands that are being made in General Shop this year. The students have worked hard on finishing them up. There are some that are all walnut, cherry and walnut, oak and walnut, just oak and maple with walnut. Students from here until the end of the year are putting on hardware (hinges, handles and/or knobs). Some are still sanding and staining. Just a reminder that all projects need to be paid for before they go home. Cost $75.00!  Students will need to make something small to finish out the year. ( Some students are making baseball bats for example. Another option is to make a project like a dresser, gun cabinet, coffee table or Inn Table and finish it next year in Advance shop if that is an option.

Advance Shop- Do one thing productive a day! For example: Glue together a top! Sand the top of something and cut it to size. Stain your project, build a drawer, put on slides etc.  The school year is winding down and the advance shop students need to finish up their projects before the end of the school. All projects need to be paid for before they go home! The remainder of the year will be focused on finishing up projects.

High School P.E- Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will continue to be physical training days. The rest of the week will be activity days. Students who are failing or doing poorly in P.E can contribute that to getting dressed and participating! Other students in 1st and 2nd hour who are struggling are doing so because they are tardy  on a regular basis. Monday- soccer, Tuesday-volleyball, Wednesday-flag football, Thursday-kickball and Friday-Dodge ball.

Week of March 17th  - 21st

Monday Delayed start. Students need to show up at 10:00 am and will have 2nd and 4th hours before lunch.

Basketball Awards night is Tuesday at 6:30 in the multi-use room . I will supply the food and the drink. Parents if you see any uniforms laying around please have your son bring them in so I can pack things away. Parents, I would like to say thanks for everything this past season.

General Shop- Reminder that all nightstands cost $75.00. I need to have all projects paid for before they go home! The General Shop students are doing an excellent job of finishing off their nighstands. This week students need to finish sand, stain, put on hardware, or a few students are still building their nighstand drawer. Students who don't have money for hardware need to come and see me so I can assist them in their purchase. If a student gets their nightstand done here soon they need to come up with a small project to finish this year, a few are working on making baseball bats. Some students in the past who finished their nightstand early would start a bigger project and picked it up the next year. A reminder that each day is worth 20 points towards your son or daughters grade. 5 points if they are on time to class, 10 points if they work in class and 5 more points if they clean -up.

Advance Shop- Students need to work on their project! (1) so we can get it done before the end of the school year and 2. So they get a good grade. A reminder that each day is worth 20 points. See the information above on grading. My motto is get something done on your  project everyday and you will get your project done by the end of the year and it will look great. I have to get everything sprayed (each project) three times. I really take pride in each project and will be pushing to finish each project. Nothing goes home before it is paid for in full.

High School P.E- Monday, Wednesday and Friday are  physical  training days (18 push-ups, 28 sit-ups and 6 laps). After the P.T listed above students will participate in some type of physical game activity. Students get 20 points a day for a weekly grade of normally 100 points. (Those students who fail are doing so because they don't dress and or participate).  Monday  students will play Floor Hockey. Tuesday will be Flag Football. Wednesday                                                                     Volleyball and Thursday will be Soccer. Friday Run the Mile.

Last Basketball comments for the season!

It is hard to believe that the season is over all ready. The J.V team did an excellent job! They finished 16-2 and first place in the conference. Great Job!

The varsity finished 13-7 and 10-4 in the conference (third place). Not a terrible season, but one with some disappointment. Some tough loses early were hard to recover from mentally I believe. The district loss to Traverse City St. Francis 70- 63 was a great game and the score not a true indicator of how the game went. The players executed the game plan to a "T"and  for 3 and 2/3 quarters the Ramblers led, but Traverse flexed it's muscle using the (2) 6'-8" kids and Byron Bullough to pound the ball inside. And the players were excellent in their preparations following up to the game as well. Alot of positives for next year too. First, I say good bye to 5 seniors. Grant Gugle was excellent at the point guard running the offense and providing leadership. Kyle Heuker performed well playing defense, rebounding and providing toughness. Coery Rozeveld was one of the hardest workers on the team providing leadership and toughness. Grant Koster was the inspirational leader. The remaining senior is Triston Wilson who really exploded in the last 10 games and was critical to our success over that stretch. The positives for next year are there to be optimistic for strong season. The top two leading scorers return with Cole Powell and Tyler Sterk. Jordan Vanderhoef returns as the other senior next year with Tyler Sterk. The other juniors who return next year will include Garett Gugle, Seth Barnette, Ethan Eisenga and Hunter Kitson. All excellent players who saw good playing time this year.

General Shop- Finish construction of the drawers for those students who had to wait well I got a part fixed on the dovetail jig. Students should be sanding, staining, putting on hardware or sanding the finish if I sprayed their project. The general shop students have done an excellent job building their nightstands and I believe the parents will be satisfied with the product when they come home. A reminder that all nightstands cost $75.00 and the money is due prior to the project going home.

Advance Shop- Students just need to get work done everyday! There are alot of projects to that need to get finished up in the next 12 weeks! There are alot of nice projects as well. My old adage is get one thing done a day and by the weeks end you will have accomplished something! All projects need to be paid for before they go home. Another reminder is that everyday is worth 20 points, based on attendance, working in class, and clean-up!

High School P.E- Running a mile this week! Not sure what day, but it needs to happen this week. Monday , Wednesday, and Friday will be Physical Training days. ( 17 push-ups, 27 sit-ups and 5-6 laps. ) After the physical training students will participate in the following activities. Monday(Soccer), Tuesday( kickball), Wednesday(Flag Football) Thursday(Frisbee) and Friday(Floor Hockey). All game day games are subject to change!

Sunday, March 2, 2014

High School will be testing this week starting except on Monday and Friday. Tuesday, March 4th all high school students will be testing except seniors who are excused for the day! Juniors will be testing Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with Friday being a field trip.

Basketball this week-

Well, districts start officially Monday, but the team doesn't play until Wednesday. Our first game will be between Kalkaska and T.C St. Francis. It will be a 7:00 pm game at the winners gym.

The regular season ended on Tuesday thanks to mother nature cancelling the Thursday game against Evart. I would of liked to have played Evart and gained alittle momentum going into the districts. I feel like the team is playing well enough to make a tournament run if we can continue to score and tighten up on defense.

The J.V team will finish the season 16-2 having lost 2 games due to weather. We lost the J.V Beal City game and the Evart J.V game. A very solid season and I truly believe this team could of won both of the games that were cancelled and finished 18-2. This team was a hard working fun group of young men who played the game the right way.

On Tuesday, Feb. 25th the J.V team ended the season with a 67-26 victory over Marion. Logan Taylor scored 12 points hitting two 3 pointers. Craig Sterk scored 16 points and Logan Eling poured in 14 points. Jimmy Schneider chipped in 7 points, Brendon Sutten 6 points and Donovan Quist 6 points.

Great Job J.V Ramblers!

The Varsity Ramblers ended the regular season with a 88-46 victory over Marion. Triston Wilson scored 19 hitting two 3 pointers , Grant Gugle had 13 points hitting 3 -3 pointers, Cole Powell chipped in 9 points, Garrett Gugle had 8 points with 2 -3 pointers. Tyler Sterk 7 points with 5 others scoring 6 points.

High School P.E- This week I will continue to test students in push-ups and sit-ups. They also will be running a mile sometime when it doesn't conflict with team sports or testing in the high school. Monday, Wednesday and Friday's will continue to be days of physical testing. Students will be asked to do 16 push-ups and 26 sit-ups as well as run 5-6 laps. The remaining class time will be be filled in with game activities. Monday no class because of an elementary concert. Tuesday is testing in the high school no class. Wednesday we will play dodgeball and volleyball, Thursday Frisbee and Friday basketball. All games are subject to change.

Advance Shop- The school year is running quickly to the end. I hate to say it, but there are quite a few students who need to get work done if they plan to finish their project by the end of the  year. They need to focus on getitng one thing done everyday. Most students are to the point where they could be sanding if nothing else. Everyday is a day for students to work on their project. Each day is worth 20 points, but students only get them if they work and clean-up. Not home work or sitting around! It should be an easy "A".

General Shop- It has been a real good year in General Shop! There have been some real nice nightstands made this year especially with different woods. Most students are done with the building phase of their project. Students are now sanding, putting on hardware, staining, and  finishing.

Basketball this week-

The regular season comes to an end this week with two home games! Tuesday at home with Marion and home on Thursday with Evart. Looking to play both games like tournament games with a focus on defense, rebounding and execution. I also would like to mix in a few new wrinkles as well. As of late I would like to think we are playing better offense having scored 66, 61, 77, and 87 points in the last 4 games.

This past week the varsity Ramblers beat Manistee 77-67 on Tuesday despite no Triston Wilson who was sick and giving up 30 points to the one of the Chippewas. One key player in the game was Tyler Sterk who scored 23 points after struggling the last 4 to 5 games on offense.Tyler  had 4 - 3 pointers in that game to support the 23 points. Cole Powell also had 23 points with 5 - 3 pointers all in the first quarter. In all the Ramblers had 10, 3 pointers on the night. Jordan Vanderhoef had 10 points off the bench while Seth Barnette dumped in 7 as well. The disappointment on the night was giving up 67 points, allowing a 30 point scorer and shooting 13 for 30 from the foul line. All things that need to be corrected before the tournament. Up 27 - 12 after the first quarter the Ramblers allowed the Manistee Chippewas to close the gap at halftime to 33 -31. This also has become a issue that needs to be corrected!

On Thursday the 20th we traveled across town to NMC to face a conference rival. The Ramblers came out with a focus and were up  25 - 10 at the end of the first quarter, again allowing another team the Comets to score 21 points in the 2nd quarter to lead 55 -31 at half. Just losing mental focus in the second on defense again. The defense improved from Tuesday overall, I liked the energy, the hustle and the fast break points that were created by our defense. We also out rebounded the Comets and forced more turnovers. Four Ramblers found their way into double figures with Tyler Sterk scoring 17 points, Cole Powell had 14 points and one really nice dunk! Triston Wilson came back after being sick Tuesday scoring 14 points. Garett Gugle and Jordan Vanderhoef provided a nice one two punch off the bench scoring 13 and 10 respectively!  The free throw line again not good though
 14-24.

Two wins this week would send the Ramblers into March Madness 14-6. After starting 1-4!

The J.V Ramblers won two this week beating the Manistee Chippewas 58 -24. The young Ramblers used multiple players to score.  Logan Eling 11 points, Craig Sterk 11 points, Jimmy Schneider 8 points,Tyler Clark 7 points, Carter Brunink and Donovan Quist 6 points. The win pushed the J.V record to 14 - 2!

On Thursday the Ramblers beat cross town rival NMC 83-53 with Jimmy Schneider scoring 18 points, Logan Eling 23 points, with Craig Sterk netting 16 and Carter Brunink 10 points respectively. This J.V team continues to score well, and find different guys on different nights. They are a fun group to coach and to be around. A great group of young men! I thought Donovan Quist, Dylan Boonstra, Emmitt Bronkema Brendon Sutten along with Logan Taylor played well tonight on defense and with the running game.

High School P.E- This week I will get started with some testing on push-ups, sit-ups and the mile run. This will be part of the final exam at the end of the year. Monday, Wednesday and Friday will continue to be Physical Training days with stretching, push-ups,(15), sit-ups (25) and running (5) laps prior to participating in an activity. On Tuesday and Thursday we will continue with a warm-up and go into an activity afterwards. Monday's activity will be volleyball, Tuesday's avtivity will be flag football, Wednesday will be floor hockey, Thursday some soccer and Friday dodge ball!
Dress and participation are necessary for an "A" grade.

General Shop- Students in General shop should be doing one of the following on their nightstand this week: Finishing their drawer (dovetail), sanding, staining, or putting on hardware. Everyone has something to do! Homework, failure to clean-up, work on your project or being in class on time will hurt your grade.

Advance Shop- The year is half over and my question to advance shop students: Is your project half done?  The main focus for every advance shop student right now is to get something done constructively everyday. This week it is work, work and work again along with clean-up.

Monday, February 17, 2014

Basketball this coming week-

Tuesday home against Manistee and away on Thursday at NMC. Both are games we can win if we play well. For the J.V the goal is finish 17-2, because I don't see us making up the J.V Beal City game. The Varsity has a goal to finish 14-6 overall and make a serious run into the tournament.

This past week the J.V won at Lake City in convincing manner 71-50. Craig Sterk led the way with 34 points, while Logan Eling put in 15 points. Donovan Quist add 11 points hitting 3 - 3's. Dylan Boonstra had 5 while playing some great defense. On Friday the J.V beat Manton at home 53-41, Craig Sterk had 25 points and Logan Eling put in 15 points. Logan and Craig have done a real nice job of giving the Rambler  J.V team a solid one, two punch. Carter Brunink has been a very nice compliment giving the Ramblers a solid defender and rebounder. Tylor Clark has been a nice "3" guard playing excellent defense and rebounding. Jimmy Schneider has been excellent at the point guard position running the offense and controlling tempo.

This past week the Varsity picked up two conference wins over Lake City and Manton. The Lake City game ended 64-60 at Lake city which was a hard fought physical battle. Leading the way against Lake City were Triston Wilson with 23 points, Cole Powell had 15 points with Grant Gugle nad Kyle Heuker each scoring 7 apiece. Off the bench the Ramblers got solid play from Hunter Kitson, Ethan Eisenga and Garett Gugle among others. That was the first game out of the last 4 that Ramblers gave up over 50 points. At home on Friday against Manton the Ramblers won 61-45. The best thing was the defense holding the Rangers to 45 points. If we are going to make a tournament run we will have to hold teams to under 50 points. Leading the way in scoring was Cole Powell with 15 points, Triston Wilson had 11 points, while Hunter Kitson and Jordan Vanderhoef each had 6 points and Ethan Eisenga 4points.

High School P.E-  Big reminder that inorder for your son or daughter to get an "A" in P.E they must "dress" and actually "participate" in class "Do Something". I will not just give out "A"'s.

No class on Monday! Tuesday will be Soccer! Wednesday will be Physical Training with push-ups, sit-ups and running (5) laps.  The remainder of the hour will be Air Force Frisbee. Thursday will be Flag Football. Friday will be Floor Hockey with a possibility of running the Mile run..!
Running Mile is a test of endurance.

General Shop- Tuesday, I will review how to stain! Students will have to decide what color they want their project to be! THEY CAN STAIN IT NATURAL! Some students need to finish dovetailing their drawer and put on their slides. For the most part students are done building, they just need to sand, out on hardware and stain. GOAL FOR THE WEEK- HAVE EVERYONE DONE BUILDING, so they just need to sand, stain and put on hardware.

Advance Shop-  GOAL FOR THE WEEK- HAVE EVERY STUDENT ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING EACH DAY ON THEIR PROJECT! WE ARE OVER HALF WAY THROUGH THE YEAR! IS YOUR STUDENTS PROJECT HALF WAY DONE!. ADVANCE SHOP IS ABOUT BUILDING A QUALITY PROJECT.

Sunday, February 9, 2014

No school on Friday, Professional Development Day and no school on Monday Presidents Day!

Basketball this coming week-

This week McBain is at Lake City on Tuesday while Manton comes to town on Friday. Two key Highland Conference match-ups and possible district opponents as well.

The J.V. continued it's winning ways this week with a solid win against Frankfort 71-51. Craig Sterk led the way with 28 pts while Logan Eling chipped in 18pts. Jimmy Schneider, Tylor Clark, Carter Brunink, Emmitt Bronkema and Donovan Quist all played while in the victory. Pine River came to town on Thursday and the game became a shootout as the Ramblers hung on for a 78-73 victory. Solid support from Carter Brunink, Emmitt Bronkema each chipping in 8 pts helped to secure the win. Tyler Clark, Jimmy Schneider, Dylan Boonstra and Donovan Quist all played solid defense, rebounded and contributed to the victory. Logan Eling and Craig Sterk continued their hot shooting leading the Ramblers with 24pts and 21pts respectfully. On Friday the young Ramblers headed to Marion to finish off their sweep of the week with 60-29. Craig Sterk dumped in 26pts and Logan Eling 14pts. Brenden Sutten and Donovan Quist each had 5 pts while Dylan Boonstra scored 4pts and played excellent defense with a great job on the boards.

The varsity Ramblers won a big game on Monday at Frankfort against a team that went to the Class "D" quarters last season 49-46. Cole Powell chipped in 16pts, Tyler Sterk had 9 pts, Grant Gugle 10pts and Triston Wilson 7pts. This was a significant victory since the Ramblers lost huge at home against Beal City. A tough lost followed on Thursday though with a 42 - 36 lost to Pine River.  On Friday McBain went to Marion and won 68 - 33. Triston Wilson paced the Ramblers with 20pts. As we prepare for the week ahead I see alot of promise. Three opponents under 50 pts, with two of those feats against two very good teams. We also out rebounded all three of our opponents! Playing great defense and out rebounding our opponents gives us an opportunity to win! Our goal from here out is to win every game, out rebound our opponents, keep them under 50 points and continue to improve on offense.

High School P.E- Monday and Wednesday will be physical training days. Student will do Push-ups (13), Sit-ups (24) and Run (6) laps. After words we will finish the hour with a physical activity to keep students active. Tuesday and Thursday we will have some warm-up activities and again finish the hour with game like activities like Frisbee, Floor Hockey, Flag Football, Soccer and others. If your son or daughter is failing or doing poorly it is because they are not dressing, participating or are showing up late to class. I will not give them an "A" for not doing what is expected of them.

General Shop- Main goal is to get every General Shop students "drawer" completely done! And to have students sand their nightstands so they can stain it soon. I also need students to get their hardware (hinges, handles and knobs). I want to assemble all projects before we stain and spray the nightstands!

Advance Shop- Real simple! Accomplish something everyday! For example dovetail a drawer, sand a top for your project or get something glued!

If your son or daughter is not doing well they probably are not working everyday, don't clean-up or both. I will not give out an "A" for being lazy.

Basketball this week coming.

At Frankfort Monday, Pine River  home Thursday and at Marion on Friday.

The J.V never got to play a game this past week! It is tough to practice all week and not play. However, this J.V team is a very relaxed group and I believe they will be ready on Monday.

The Varsity had only one game this week and it was a very difficult game to lose! The lost against  Beal City Friday was tough in many ways. It was Homecoming for starters, it was our                         third lost in the conference which means we are probably out of the conference race. The 83 points is the most given up by the Ramblers in a very long time. I really thought we were prepared and ready to play Friday. I apologize to all the fans because it is up to me to have this team ready and this was not a good representation of who we are or how we play.

High School P.E- Students need to be in class on time, be dressed and participate inorder to get their 20pts! I will not be giving out "A's" students need to earn their grade!
On Monday we will play Air Force Football, Tuesday 1st hour students will go into the weight room and 2nd hour will play soccer. On Wednesday  we will play Volleyball and some Floor Hockey. Thursday 1st hour will again go into the weight room and 2nd hour will play some Air Force Frisbe Friday will be Basketball.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday's will be Physical Training Days! This week we will Jog (2) laps to get warmed up, after that we will stretch do 13 push-ups and 23 sit-ups. When done we will run 5 laps.

General Shop- Here as well students need to work! Some seem to think they can pick and choose when they want to work! To get the 20pts for the day. A student needs to be in class on time, work on their project and clean-up at the end of the hour if they want an "A". General Shop students are working on finishing up the construction of their projects (nightstands). Most of them are down to finishing up their drawer construction (dovetailing) and putting on the hardware (knobs, handles and hinges). They also need to sand and stain their project.

Advance Shop- It is real simple! Most have a project that they need to work on and finish before the end of the year.  There are some nice projects that are creative and functional that need to to be finished. However, some students choose not to work or or clean-up. To get their 20pts a day they need to be in class on time, work on their project and clean-up !

Basketball

The J.V Boys Basketball team continued it's winning ways by beating the Kingsley Stags on Tuesday 74-40. Logan Eling poured in 29 points hitting 4 - 3pointers along the way. Craig Sterk scored 17 points as well. Friday the J.V beat Evart 64-49. Craig Sterk dropped in 21 points and Logan Eling 15 points. Carter Brunink has been playing hard with excellent work on the boards. The J.V Ramblers have an 8-2 record at the half way point. This team continues to play well on both ends of the court. The defense has been solid as well!

The Varsity team picked up two more wins this week to improve their record to 6-4 on the season and 4-2 in the conference. A nice road win over Kingsley  69-51 on Tuesday got the week started. Cole Powell and Tyler Sterk each poured in 12 points for the Ramblers with Triston Wilson and Jordan Vanderhoef scoring 11 points and 9 points to help the Ramblers. A solid start offensively and good defense were the key. On Thursday the Ramblers beat Evart 65-44. Cole Powell scored 17 points, Triston Wilson had 10 points Kyle Heuker had 11 points and Tyler Sterk 8 points. Again good balance offense and solid defense helped the Ramblers secure the win.

High School P.E- Monday will start with physical training( stretching, sit-ups, push-ups and running).
Wednesday and Friday will follow the same protocol. After the physical training students will participate in an activity. Monday-Soccer, Wednesday- Volleyball, Friday-Flag Football.
Tuesday and Thursday students will go into the weight room where students will have to record their activity.

General Shop- Things are hectic with students changing classes! Monday I will review clean-up with all students.  After that I will review all projects with each student to set some goals for the week individually. Most students are working on dovetailing their drawer and putting on slides!
I will also this week review sanding the students in order to get their project ready to stain.

Advance Shop- Review new clean -up jobs! I will also review all projects one on one with each student to set some personal goals for the week. Most students really need to get some work done on their projects. We are at the half way point and some students need to really push it up a notch inorder to get their project done.

Delayed Start Monday!

Basketball

J.V basketball continued to play well this week with convincing wins over Lake City and NMC. Two nice conference wins. The entire team has bought in and they are really fun to coach. This week we go on the road to Kingsley on Tuesday and at Evart on Thursday.

The Varsity team had two big conference wins this week. The first over Lake City a big conference win that help to put us back in the race, for now anyway. The second win over NMC put the Ramblers at 3-2 in the race. The Varsity looks like they are starting to figure it out. The defense is really starting to pick-up! We still need to get smarter so as not to get ourselves in foul trouble as a team and as individuals. The rebounding has been key helping to key the transition game! On offense patience has been the huge! Better shots and offensive rebounds are now helping out the shooting percentage. There is still room for improvement. This team is young, athletic and very smart. I really believe big things lay ahead for this team.

High School P.E - New students can expect to be assigned lockers on the first day and be ready to participate on the second day. Students will be expected to participate in the exercise part of the class as well as the activity portion as well. The exercise part will be stretches, sit-ups and push-ups as well as running. The activities include basketball, soccer, flag football, Frisbee etc. Everyday is worth 20 points. Students need to dress, be involved (participate) and be respectful to everyone inorder to get the 20 points.

General Shop- Figuring out who is in what class and who dropped will be the first order of business! General shop students are down to building their drawer and finishing their project. Students also need to purchase the hardware (hinges and handles or knobs). The General Shop students have done a nice job so far this year.

Advance Shop- The Advance Shop students coming in will need to build something!  If you signed up you have to make something! For new students and those returning, everyday is again worth 20 points. You need to be in class on time, build something (work) and clean-up.

Exam Week!

Get plenty of sleep, eat well and study so you are prepared!
Exams schedule is - 1st hour on Wednesday, 2nd hour, 3rd hour and 4th hour are Thursday, and 6th, 7th and 8th are Friday. School gets out at 1:45 pm on Thursday and Friday.

Basketball Review-

The Junior Varsity continues to play well beating Manton on Thursday. This team is very coach able, works hard and plays well together. They currently are 4-2 with their only losses coming to Cadillac and Traverse St. Francis. Both were very competitive games.

The Varsity is currently 2-4. This is a very young team with only one returning starter from last year. This team is working extremely hard everyday in practice! We have been competitive in every game having had the lead in two of the games we lost with under a minute to go. Playing consistent, maintaining defensive pressure and rebounding are things that we as a team need to establish in order to be successful! I feel that this team is going to get going here soon.

High School P.E- The semester exam will be students being retested on sit-ups, push-ups and running of the mile. Students need to show progress (improvement) from early testing in the year. Each category is worth 33% of the exam grade. Monday will be retesting of sit-ups, Tuesday will be push-ups and Wednesday will be the mile run.

Advance Shop- Monday I will review each project again with each student to set some goals for the week. Each class will have an exam!

General Shop- There will be an exam in each class that is all about the construction of the night stand! I will review this week prior to the exam. Students will continue this week to build their top and start to construct their drawer. Students are really doing a great job!

Welcome Back!

High School P.E- Students need to finish the year strong! This means they need to DRESS and PARTICIPATE if they want a good grade! We will continue on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to Run, Do Push-ups and Sit-ups. The exam for P.E class will be based on students testing themselves in the Mile Run, Sit-ups and Push-ups.

General Shop- Most students need to just build their drawer for their night stand project! Of course they still need to sand, stain and finish the project. Students need to purchase hinges and handles or knobs for their night stand. We discussed this prior to Christmas Break! Students are doing a nice job on their projects. Also, there will be a Semester Exam!

Advance Shop- Students need to finish strong the semester! There will be a semester exam.
